As I just said, my AirSense 10 just took a fall. It was a complete and utter accident. This happened less than an hour ago and I’m typing this from my phone since my sleep is pretty much shot from the nerves and the shock.
I went to sleep a bit after midnight and my SO went to sleep about an hour later. In her struggle to get comfy and turn down for the night, she kept hearing music. Like a video was left playing on a phone. She checked her phone. Nothing. The only other culprit in her tired mind is my phone.
She walks around the bed to my side and can’t find my phone in the dark, so she gets her phone and turns the flashlight on to accidentally shine it on my face, this startles me and she quietly and tenderly asks for my phone. I point at it a bit grumpy from the shining of a thousand suns. She checks it to find it completely in sleep mode. In her rush to keep any more sleep from me and herself, she turned off the light on her phone and walked back to her side of the bed, as she did, her foot got caught on the power cable of my apap and dragged it far beyond the edge of the nightstand. Sending my apap and it’s full reservoir of water tumbling to the floor.
I felt a gentle tug on my mask and the machine began to sputter and gurgle through the tube. She began to scramble to try and turn the flashlight to shine on her phone at the same time that she’s trying to pick up the gurgling machine up from the floor in the darkness. My eyes shot open, and my sleep instantly left me. I quickly tore the mask off my face, and I jumped off the bed to hit the light switch for the main light in the bedroom. I saw she was trying to still hold on to the still gurgling and spluttering apap. In an unceremonious fashion, I yanked the power cord out of the machine and the tube while she was holding the gurgling apap. And then took the machine from her hands and took it to the master bathroom where I took the water reservoir and emptied it on the sink. I then placed the apap on its side with the reservoir side facing the floor on a dry towel.
This all happened in a minute or two. I didn’t think I simply reacted. She apologized profusely and I tried to calm her down. It was an accident. Accidents happen. I tried to lay down to sleep with her again. Turned all the phones and lights off this time. I laid on the bed for maybe thirty minutes without getting any actual sleep or rest. All I can think of is, is my machine dead? Is it ruined?
I turned the bedside light on and got my phone and then went to the bathroom to get all the pieces to my apap. I took them to the kitchen table and assembled it with no water in the reservoir. I then went back to the bedroom to get the power cable to plug in my machine. It started up fine and immediately began a sleep cycle, I turned it off and ran a maskfit cycle. I sat in the floor with the machine still on the table. I put my hand over the end of the tube and slowly let a bit or air leak to simulate breathing. I began to feel water droplets out of the tube. Lots of droplets but very far from a steady stream. I noticed the machine was whisper quiet and no longer gurgling. I just sat on the floor with my palm over the end of the tube just letting the water droplets get out for several minutes until the machine reverted back to sleep cycle. I turned the apap off and disassembled it once again and left everything in the sink’s drying rack.
So now I lay here wondering. Will it be ok? Do I need to get a new one? Can I get a new one with all this quarantine business going on? I clearly can’t sleep and I need higher wisdom to put me at peace. Sorry for the wall of text. I’m sure this post could have been a bit shorter, but what else am I going to do if I can’t sleep...
